I will strive to provide support on your journey to improve your life and overall wellbeing.” Katherine Illgen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and received her Masters in Social Work from Salisbury University. Katherine has been in the mental health field since 2012 and began her career in Maryland before moving to the Yorktown are in 2018. She completed her residencies at Meritus Medical Center in their Behavioral Health Emergency Room and inpatient settings, and in the Health Maintenance Program at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center helping homeless veterans suffering somatic and mental health problems. Katherine has worked in community mental health providing services in client’s homes, schools, and traditional outpatient settings. She has been in supervisory roles and worked on numerous collaborative medical/mental health teams to ensure the overall wellness of her clients. Katherine takes a “whole health” approach and tailors therapy to the needs of the client. Often, she uses Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Trauma-Informed techniques with clients. Katherine enjoys finding people’s strengths and building upon those with creative interventions. Katherine works with children aged 7 and above, adolescents, and adults. She provides individual, family, and couples counseling. She routinely works with the LGBTQ+ population. Katherine has worked extensively with individuals dealing with difficulties related to anger, anxiety, depression, mood instability, gender identity, relationship problems (including open, polyamorous, or non-traditional relationships/marriages) stress, and more.
